Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Student Life Tracker?

The Student Life Tracker is a free budgeting tool built specifically for South African university students. It helps you track weekly spending, manage your monthly allowance or NSFAS funds, plan grocery trips, and compare prices across major stores.

Is it really free?

Yes, completely free. No premium tier, no hidden fees. We built this because students need it.

Which stores do you compare?

We compare prices across South Africa's major grocery chains including Shoprite, Checkers, Pick n Pay, Woolworths, SPAR, and more. The list grows as we add more data.

How does the Grocery Trip mode work?

You set a budget, add items to a priority queue, then walk through the store. As you confirm each item's real price, the app tracks your remaining budget and tells you what you can still afford. Smartest items first.

Can I share a trip with housemates?

Yes! The Chip-In feature lets you track who contributed money to a shared grocery trip. It calculates each person's actual share of the cart.

How accurate are the prices?

Prices come from two sources: admin-verified official prices (updated regularly) and community-reported prices from students shopping in-store. High-voted community reports are auto-promoted to official status.
